Top marks for Haringey schools
There has been a 3.7 per cent rise in the proportion of students in Haringey getting five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, showing an improvement of almost 20 per cent (17.2 per cent) since 2003.
Fortismere, Gladesmore, Greig City and Woodside High schools achieved a year on year rise of 8 per cent, while Highgate Wood and Hornsey School for Girls made a 6 per cent improvement.
Councillor Lorna Reith, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "This is a fantastic achievement. I would like to congratulate Haringey's young people and hope this is the beginning of great things for them, whether they now enter the world of work or go into further education.
"Our schools have been working very hard, so I'm delighted that they have been able to improve the results for the 6th year in a row," added the councillor.
The GCSE results in Haringey follow the recent announcement of improved A-Level results in the borough. There was a 4.3 per cent increase in the number of A-Level students getting the top grades and the overall pass rate has increased from 96.8 per cent in 2008 to 97.8 per cent this year.
Some 71.4 per cent of this year's grades were A to C, compared to 67.1 per cent last year.
