Residents and visitors to the streets of Haringey will soon be able to recycle ‘on the go’, after the local council announced plans to install recycling bins throughout the borough’s busiest streets.

The move comes after the mayor of London urged all London boroughs to introduce bins so that recyclable items generated whilst they are out shopping or going about their lives so still recycle rather than putting recyclable items in to litter bins.

In Haringey a total of 30 recycling bins are to be made available so that people walking down the road can recycle their cans, plastic bottles and papers as they walk.

Situated in the town centres in N22, N17 and N15 the idea is that the bins can be used whilst people are out and about so keeping up the good habit of recycling when they are not at home, said Councillor Brian Haley, cabinet member for environment and conservation.

He explained: “These bins will help people recycle even more. It can be difficult holding on to litter to take it home for recycling. It can mean carrying cans, bottles and papers with you while you shop and in most cases the goods end up in regular bins and the opportunity for recycling is lost.

"We now hope these new bins will help keep the borough even greener and remind residents that recycling is the way of the future."
