Apprentice workers head to Hornsey and Highgate schools
To mark Apprenticeship Week (1 to 5 February), schools across local areas such as Hornsey and Highgate have apprentices working on the premises.
From plumbers to decorators, the apprentices are learning new skills and helping the community as part of the Building Schools of the Future (BSF) programme.
Apprentices are currently working on seven school sites to help with construction projects, including at Gladesmore, Woodside High, Northumberland Park, John Loughborough, Hornsey, Park View Academy and Highgate Wood.
A further six apprentices are currently working with the project’s ICT provider, RM. They will spend five months in training, then will spend ten months working in Haringey schools.
In total, 24 young people between 16 and 18 years will go through a programme with RM, gaining formal qualifications and technical skills.
The apprenticeships were part of a deal arranged by Haringey Council to ensure maximum community benefit from the school improvement programme.
