Haringey to tackle re-offenders
A new programme to tackle adults re-offending in Haringey towns such as Muswell Hill, Crouch End and Hornsey, was launched by the local council at Alexandra Palace earlier this week (Wednesday).
The Haringey Reducing Re-offending Programme (HARRP) involved organisations in the criminal justice system as well as the members of the public and representatives from the private, voluntary and community sectors, will be delivered through a network of key delivery partners and stakeholders, committed to reducing re-offending, is currently being set up.
The network will provide joined-up service delivery to offenders and ex-offenders across all resettlement pathways. The process will be coordinated through the activities of HARRP case workers.
Councillor Nilgun Canver, cabinet member for enforcement and safer communities, said: “Re-offending has a high social and financial cost. Victims suffer and society has to pick up the cost of tackling an offender's behaviour. It's clear that there is a need for local agencies and community representatives to work together and to provide an opportunity for individual offenders to turn their lives around."
